USDOT number lookup

Check a carrier by USDOT number Free, verified against official FMCSA records.

Uses your free key if you have one in this tab. No key? Try the free example, USDOT 53467, or get a free key.

How it works

Every interstate motor carrier has a USDOT number. It identifies the company's registration with FMCSA and stays the same when the company adds or changes MC dockets, which makes it a good number to vet with.

Enter a USDOT number and this tool shows the legal name, authority status, insurance status and whether there is an out-of-service order, rolled up into one PASS, REVIEW or FAIL verdict with the reasons. Verified against official FMCSA records.

A USDOT number alone does not mean a company may haul for hire across state lines; that also needs active operating authority. The verdict checks both.

Questions

Where do I find a USDOT number?

Carriers display it on their power units, and it is on the carrier packet and rate confirmation. If you only have an MC number, use the MC number lookup.

What does an out-of-service order mean?

FMCSA has ordered the carrier to stop operating. Any active out-of-service order makes the verdict FAIL.

How current is the result?

A carrier's first lookup is checked against FMCSA at request time; repeat lookups use a copy refreshed at least daily, and out-of-service orders are checked on every lookup.

Is it free?

Yes. The free plan is 100 lookups a month with no card. USDOT 53467 is a free example that never counts.
