Dispatch services sign up owner-operators and small fleets, then book loads for them with brokers. Small brokerages tender loads to carriers they have not worked with before. Both run the same check many times a week: is this authority active, is insurance on file, is there an out-of-service order, and has anything about this company changed recently?

CarrierVet answers that with one lookup by MC or USDOT number and a PASS, REVIEW or FAIL verdict with reasons. Verified against official FMCSA records.

Where it fits

Signing a new carrierConfirm the authority is active and old enough for the brokers you work with, insurance is on file, and there is no out-of-service order. New authority under 90 days is flagged REVIEW.
Before each bookingRe-check the carrier. Insurance can lapse and authority can be revoked between loads.
Spotting red flagsThe risk endpoint flags recent phone, email or address changes and contact details shared with other carriers, common signs of identity theft and double brokering.
Keeping a recordEvery lookup returns a dated receipt you can save with the load file.

FAQ

Can I check a broker's authority with CarrierVet?

The verdict is about whether a company can haul freight as a motor carrier, so a broker-only MC number returns FAIL with not_a_carrier. The profile still shows broker authority status in authority.broker_status, and the broker's bond in the insurance block.

How many carriers can I check for free?

The free plan includes 50 lookups a month with no card. Paid plans with more lookups, watchlist alerts and batch lookups open after the beta; prices are on the home page.

Does CarrierVet replace a carrier packet?

No. It covers the FMCSA side of vetting: authority, insurance filings, out-of-service status, safety rating and contact signals. Keep collecting the W-9, certificate of insurance and signed agreement.

What if a carrier says its record is wrong?

Carriers can request a review on the corrections page. CarrierVet does not change FMCSA records; a carrier corrects its own record with FMCSA.

Do I need a developer?

No. The lookup form on this page runs in your browser with your key, and the curl command works from any terminal. Developers can use the REST API, OpenAPI spec or MCP server.
