Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes the information that CarrierVet LLC, a New York limited liability company (the "Operator," "we," "us," or "our"), which operates CarrierVet, collects when you use carriervet.dev and the CarrierVet API, and how that information is used.
What we collect from customers
- Account details: your email address, a salted hash of your password (never the password itself), hashed API keys and key prefixes, your plan, and when and which version of the Terms you accepted, and whether and when you confirmed your email address (we store only a one-way hash of the one-time confirmation link).
- Usage: lookup counts, which carriers you looked up or monitor, a saved copy of each lookup response (a lookup receipt, with its time, endpoint, and the API key that made it), alert email addresses and webhook URLs you configure, and delivery logs for alerts.
- Technical data: IP address and request metadata, used briefly for rate limiting, abuse prevention, and security logs kept by our hosting provider. IP addresses used for signup and login limits are stored only as one-way hashes in counters that expire within about two hours.
- Payments: Stripe processes all payments. We never see or store your full card number. We receive a Stripe customer ID, subscription status, and plan.
Carrier data
Carrier records are derived from publicly available records maintained by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT). Some owner-operator records include a business phone, email, or address that is also personal. We use this data only to provide carrier information and risk signals to customers. We do not return EINs or company officer names. Carriers can request a review of their record or a flag. We also keep a dated history of changes in FMCSA records, such as authority, insurance, and MCS-150 updates. Company officer names are not stored in that history.
How we use it
To run the service, authenticate requests, enforce plan limits, send alerts and service emails (such as usage warnings and billing notices), send a one-time email to confirm your address, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.
We do not sell your data
We do not sell or rent customer personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Service providers
We share data only with providers that run the service for us: Cloudflare (hosting, database, and email delivery) and Stripe (payments). They process it under their own terms and privacy policies. We may disclose information if the law requires it.
Retention
We keep account and usage data while your account is open. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymize it within 30 days, except billing records we must keep for tax and accounting (generally up to 7 years) and short-lived security logs. Lookup receipts are kept while your account is open so you can show what CarrierVet returned at a given time, and are deleted with the rest of your account data. Email hello@carriervet.dev from your account address to request access, correction, or deletion.
Security
Passwords and API keys are stored only as hashes, traffic is encrypted with HTTPS, and webhook payloads are signed. No system is perfectly secure; we will notify affected customers of a breach as required by law.
