Track record

Every day CarrierVet freezes the verdict (PASS, REVIEW or FAIL) and risk level it would return for a fixed, published cohort of carriers. Each day's file is hashed and chained to the previous day's hash, so a past day cannot be edited or added later without changing every hash after it. After 30, 60 and 90 days we count how many of those carriers had an adverse event recorded in FMCSA's daily files, and publish the counts here, whether they look good or not.

Results stay pending until each window closes. The first 30-day results are due around 2026-11-28. Early numbers come from a small cohort and may move a lot. A verdict is informational and is not a safety rating.

Method

Cohort (fmcsa_daily_files_v1): Every carrier with a stored CarrierVet record whose USDOT number appears in at least one FMCSA daily file CarrierVet has ingested (MOTUS carrier, authority history, insurance, revocation, or census MCS-150 files). Not chosen by which carriers customers looked up.

What is frozen: one JSON line per carrier with dot, as_of, verdict, reasons (verdict reason codes), score and level, computed with the same rules as the lookup API from CarrierVet's stored copy that morning. Lines are sorted by USDOT number.

Hash chain: file_hash = sha256(file bytes); chain_hash = sha256(prev_hash + file_hash) as lowercase hex strings; the first prev_hash is 64 zeros.

file_hash  = sha256(file bytes)
chain_hash = sha256(prev_hash + file_hash)   # hex strings, prev_hash of day 1 = 64 zeros

Adverse event: Within the window after the snapshot date, per FMCSA daily files: involuntary suspension or revocation of motor-carrier authority (not reversed within 14 days), an involuntary suspension notice, an insurance cancellation, a new out-of-service order, or the USDOT number becoming inactive. Events are counted only if FMCSA dated them after the snapshot date. Verified against official FMCSA records.

What is reported: for each window, the share of the cohort with an event, and the share within each verdict and risk level. A FAIL carrier with no new event is not proof the FAIL was wrong (many FAILs are already lapsed), and a PASS carrier with an event is counted and shown.
