Broker authority check

How it works
Freight brokers need their own operating authority from FMCSA and must keep a bond or trust fund on file. Carriers and shippers check this before working with a broker they do not know, and brokers check it before co-brokering a load.
Enter the broker's MC number and this tool shows its broker authority status and whether the required bond or trust fund is on file. Verified against official FMCSA records.
The PASS, REVIEW or FAIL verdict shown alongside answers a different question: can this company haul freight as a motor carrier? A broker-only MC number returns FAIL with not_a_carrier there, which is expected and does not mean the broker authority is bad. Read the broker authority row for the broker's status.
Questions
Why does a valid broker show FAIL?
The verdict is about hauling freight as a carrier. A broker-only company cannot haul the load itself, so it fails that question while its broker authority can still be active.
What is the bond row?
Brokers must file a surety bond or trust fund with FMCSA. The row shows whether that filing is on record.
Can I check a broker by USDOT number?
Yes. Enter the USDOT number on the carrier authority check, which shows the broker authority row too, or enter the MC number here. Digits on this page are treated as an MC number.
Is it free?
Yes. The free plan is 100 lookups a month with no card.
