How it works

Operating authority is FMCSA's permission for a company to haul regulated freight across state lines for hire. A carrier can hold common or contract authority, and the authority can be granted, pending, revoked or inactive. Revocations often follow an insurance lapse.

Enter an MC or USDOT number and this tool shows the carrier authority status, the broker and freight forwarder status on the same record, and the authority's age in days. Revoked, inactive or missing carrier authority makes the verdict FAIL; pending authority or authority under 90 days old is REVIEW. Verified against official FMCSA records.

Check authority again close to pickup. A carrier that was active when you onboarded it can be revoked weeks later.

Questions

What is the difference between carrier and broker authority?

Carrier authority lets a company haul freight itself. Broker authority lets it arrange freight for others. One company can hold both; this tool shows each status separately.

Why is new authority marked REVIEW?

Many fraud cases involve newly granted authority, so authority under 90 days old is flagged for a closer look. It is not a FAIL.

Can a carrier operate with pending authority?

No. Pending means FMCSA has not granted it yet, so the verdict is REVIEW until it is active.

Is it free?

Yes. The free plan is 100 lookups a month with no card.
