MC number lookup: reading the results
Run a free lookup with the MC number lookup or the USDOT lookup. Here is what the main fields mean.
| Field | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Legal name / DBA | Who holds the authority. It should match the rate confirmation and the insurance certificate. |
| USDOT number | The company's FMCSA registration. One USDOT can have one or more MC, FF or MX dockets. |
| Authority status | Active, pending, inactive or revoked, per authority type (common, contract, broker). |
| Insurance on file | Liability filings (BMC-91/91X) and any pending cancellation. |
| Out-of-service | An active order means the carrier may not operate. |
| Safety rating | Satisfactory, Conditional, Unsatisfactory, or not rated. |
| Phone, email, address | Use these, not the ones in an email signature, to confirm who you are talking to. |
CarrierVet combines these into one PASS / REVIEW / FAIL verdict with reasons, verified against official FMCSA records.
